About Us

History
Originally conceived in the late 1990s by a small group of passionate individuals eager to share their love of basketmaking and weaving with a wider audience, the Georgia Basketry Association was officially established in 2001. Our first large annual Spring Convention was held later that year and our BiAnnual Summer Weave Events began the following year. Thanks in no small part to the hard work of our volunteer Boards and enthusiastic Members, our Conventions continued to grow in Attendees, Instructors and Offerings and our Summer Weave Events proved so popular we now conduct them every year.

Mission
The purpose of the Georgia Basketry Association shall be to:

-
Perpetuate the art of basketry
-
Stimulate interest and knowledge in all aspects of basketry
-
Preserve the significance of basketry as a heritage craft

Growth
Over the last 25 years, the GBA has blossomed into a thriving community of more than 220 members, featuring an annual spring convention, summer weaving events, various instructional and educational opportunities, as well as a resource for patterns, supplies, events and much more. We hope to grow, thrive, educate and share our passion for this Heritage Craft for years to come with more like minded individuals locally and throughout the state.
